Undermountain Solutions

The complicated part is our problem.

Custom technology for independent companies — from the idea through the system that runs it.

The problem

Rented software makes everyone look the same.

Buy the standard platform and you get the standard result: the same templates as your competitors, tools that don't talk to each other, and a roadmap set by somebody else's priorities.

For most companies that's a fair trade. For the ones whose difference is the business, it's the whole problem.

  • Systems that don't share data, so nobody has the full picture
  • Templates your competitors are also using
  • A vendor's roadmap deciding what you're allowed to do next
  • Manual work absorbing the time your people should spend on customers
What we do

Build the thing,
then run it.

Undermountain builds the technology a business actually operates on — the brand and the words it starts from, the site, the integrations, the internal tools, the email and the advertising that goes out every week — and then stays to run it.

Not a project that ends at launch. Not a retainer for maintenance on someone else's product. The people who build it are the people who keep it running — and they're available when something needs to change.

How it works

You have a problem. We talk it through. We build the solution. It ships, and then it keeps working — because we're still here.

No weekly status meetings. No account manager. No ticket queue.

What you get

A platform designed around how your business actually works, built and maintained by the people who designed it — with the judgment about what to build next included, not billed separately.

The work

Built in 2013.
Still building.

Elyse Harney Real Estate

A luxury brokerage approaching its fortieth year across Connecticut, Massachusetts and New York — the kind of independent firm that competes against national brands without their resources.

In 2013 they decided to build rather than buy. Undermountain has been their technology partner ever since.

Everything they run on is custom: the website, the search, the tools their agents use daily, the systems behind the scenes nobody sees. It gets rebuilt as the business changes and as the technology does. One company, continuously, since 2013.

That's the whole case study. Nobody keeps a technology partner this long unless the work holds up.

Who

Small on purpose.

Undermountain Solutions LLC
Great Barrington, Massachusetts

Nobody gets handed a system they didn't build — and the person who answers your email is the person who writes the code.

Years spent learning what an independent company actually needs from its technology, mostly by being wrong first and then fixing it. That experience is as much the product as the software is.

When a project calls for it, we bring in specialists we trust.

A platform you own gets rebuilt when your business needs it to — not when somebody else decides to stop supporting it.

The order of the work

Bring the problem, not the spec.

Most technology work starts with a requirements document. This usually starts with someone describing a thing they have been doing for years and have never quite been able to explain.

So the work runs in order. The idea, said plainly enough to act on. Then the words — a position that holds up, a name, a line that means something. Then the identity, down to the specific grey and the space around it — on screen and on press. Then the system that carries all of it.

Most firms join at the last step and inherit whatever was decided before they arrived. Doing all four is unusual, and it is the reason the parts fit.

If you have an idea and no map, that is the interesting version.

Beyond

Real estate is where the work has landed so far. It isn't the boundary.

The systems behind that work were never real-estate systems. A search engine, a data pipeline, an alerting layer, a reporting layer, an image pipeline — configured for a brokerage at the very end.

Point them at an inn, a farm, a gallery, a small manufacturer and the configuration changes. The engine does not.

That is not a claim about versatility. It is just how they were built.

On what's new

New tools, once they're boring.

Whatever just arrived gets tried — but in production, on a real business, where being wrong has consequences. Most of what gets sold as AI is a feature looking for a problem. Occasionally it's the whole answer. Knowing which is the job.

Fit

Whether this makes sense.

It probably does if

  • Your business has something genuinely distinctive and the software is flattening it
  • You'd rather own your platform than rent one
  • You want the people who built it, not a support tier
  • You think in years, not quarters

It probably doesn't if

  • Off-the-shelf works fine for you — in which case use it
  • You need a team of ten starting Monday
  • You want the lowest price
  • You want a vendor who tells you what you want to hear

We take on very few clients, and only where we can do work we'd point at later.

Get in touch

Tell us what you're trying to solve.

Not a sales process. You describe the problem, we tell you honestly whether we're the right fit — including when we're not.

Goes straight to the person who'd do the work. A real answer within a day or two. If it isn't a fit we'll say so and point you somewhere better.
